Yes, shuttle services are highly recommended. Parking at the Mangatepopo trailhead is strictly limited to four hours during the summer season. Shuttles drop you at the start and collect you at the Ketetahi finish.
Guides are not required in summer. However, guided tours are essential in winter for those without alpine experience. Winter operators provide crampons and ice axes.
Cancellation policies vary by operator. The round trip transfer offers a full refund if canceled at least 24 hours in advance. Guided winter tours often have strict no-refund policies.
