| Car: Park at a designated park-and-ride facility near Ketetahi and take a one-way shuttle to the start of the hike. | 15-20 minutes on the shuttle | Parking and shuttle fees apply | During the Great Walk season, parking at the Mangatepopo trailhead is strictly limited to 4 hours to deter all-day parkers. |

Planning questions
Are there toilets on the track?
Toilets are spaced along the track, including near Mangatepopo Hut. You must bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer. There are no rubbish bins, so pack out all waste.
Where do I park?
You should park at a designated park-and-ride facility near Ketetahi or in a nearby town. You then take a shuttle to the start of the hike. Trailhead parking has severe time limits.
What happens if the weather is bad?
High winds and heavy rain make the crossing dangerous. Shuttles frequently cancel operations on bad weather days. You should have a backup day in your itinerary.
